Cheyenne is one of the most cherished residents at Second Chances Equine Rescue. As our oldest sanctuary horse, she embodies strength, grace, and resilience. Despite facing significant medical challenges throughout her life, Cheyenne continues to greet each day with a gentle spirit and a kind heart, making her a beloved ambassador for the rescue.

Cheyenne’s Story

Cheyenne’s journey has not been an easy one. She came to us with inoperable Squamous Cell Carcinoma due to the size and location of the tumor. In July 2016, she faced another challenge when an abscess behind her right eye ruptured, requiring the eye to be removed.

Through it all, Cheyenne has remained remarkably sweet, trusting, and affectionate. Today, she enjoys the safety and comfort of sanctuary life, where she receives the specialized care she needs. As a senior horse, she has recently begun daily arthritis medication to help keep her comfortable and happy.

Some horses require lifelong care because of age, medical conditions, or circumstances that make adoption unsuitable. Cheyenne is one of those special horses.
